Plant Sales

Prima Bio supplies both ornamental plants, and nursery stock for forestry trials and plantings. However, please note that Prima Bio is not a conventional nursery. Its breeding and propagation activities are carried out at several locations, and it does not sell plants directly to casual visitors at any location.

Eucalyptus nursery stock for forestry

Prima Bio can arrange to supply cell-grown eucalyptus plants raised by specialist forestry nurseries in Spain and Portugal, for forestry planting in the UK. This may offer some advantages for customers in the UK:

  • Eucalyptus nitens is often available from stock for spring planting.
  • Other species can be raised to order, using seed from sources not normally available in the UK if appropriate.  Prima Bio can access seed from a wide range of sources worldwide.
  • The more favourable climate compared to the UK means that plants can be delivered, ready for immediate planting, approximately 6-7 months from sowing.
  • Orders for around 50,000 plants, delivered in a single consignment, are very competitive with prices for UK-grown stock. Such consignments could comprise many species.

Note that prices will depend on the size of the total order.

Sales of unusual ornamental eucalyptus plants

Surplus plants of certain species and selections used in the breeding programme will be available for sale in small numbers, on an occasional basis. Many of the plants will have been raised from particular seed accessions and will have been over-wintered either outdoors, or with only limited protection. These are likely to be of interest to some enthusiasts, for growing either as specimen trees or shrubs, or for pollarding for cut foliage production. Prima Bio has already received requests to supply seedlings of some less well-known eucalyptus species, and for rooted cuttings of certain selections.

A few of the Western Australian species appear to be generally free of pests and diseases when grown in the UK. These species are not suitable for over-wintering outdoors, but may be of interest as containerised or conservatory plants to some specialist enthusiasts who enjoy challenges! Tips on how to grow these species, along with some general notes, are in Cultivation notes. Very limited numbers of these plants are available.

Plants available will be listed on the Prima Bio website periodically. Contact us for purchasing information. Anyone considering such a purchase should note that these plants will be offered with no guarantee whatsoever for their suitability or ability to flower in any particular location.
